Cracks are showing elsewhere in the administration’s picture of strength. Defense secretary Pete Hegseth demanded that media outlets agree they would not publish any material about the Defense Department—even if it were unclassified—unless it was explicitly authorized by department officials. He set a deadline of 5:00 tonight for them to sign an agreement or hand over their press badges.

Every major press outlet, including the Fox News Channel, refused, saying such a demand is an assault on the freedom of the press guaranteed by the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

His nibs has been critical of Fox Noise, from time to time. One outfit did sign on to do nothing but regurgitate WD press releases: OAN.

I suppose the badges are property of the Pentagon such that if one does not sign, one MUST hand over the badge; you can't leave the premise with it?.

.... like on TV when the police captain tells the tenacious detective who is getting too close to cracking the case of the corrupt politician ...."I need your badge and your weapon."

I don't think these are cracks. It is just a further deterioration of reality.

The problem is that there is a "news" outlet called OAN (One America Network?!?!?) that gladly signed the agreement that the administration wanted. Now no sane person with an IQ higher than dirt gets their information from OAN. OAN is not a news site. At best they can be described as a propaganda site. Yet I will bet you lots of money that the usual suspects (Dope, BHM, Jedi) have all actively watched OAN in the past few months thinking they were gaining knowledge about reality.

There is a large enough segment of the population that doesn't care about reality. They want to be reassured, not informed. They do not care how their ignorance is destroying the great country of America.

I often wonder about these right wing media, and that includes FOX 'news'... how much of their programming is based on pure and simple greed. They have an audience that they know expects and wants to have their twisted view of reality reinforced. Sure, maybe many of those who work at these media are on the right politically, but I'll bet the money they can generate appealing to the worst beliefs of their viewers/listeners is a big motivating factor.

Like all the lying scammers in the industrial-evangelical industry. Easy money. Who cares who it hurts, who cares if it leads to authoritarianism.

Almost all, and I include all the for-profit media in Shinyland. I have been ranting, for several years, about the media being more interested in hype and hysteria, than in actually informing the public. Remember when the "news" did not have a segment shrieking about "severe weather" every day? Remember when the "news" did not hype everything as "BREAKING NEWS", including things they had already been yammering about for days? Remember when the "news", was not spinning everything as "shocking", "alarming", "scary", or "wild"? The up and coming thing now seems to be "emotional". Smells like McKinsey selling everyone the same game plan, again.

Starting a year ago, the local Detroit media openly admitted it was all in on the "Lions hype train". yap, Yap, YAP. Seems that Sheetz, a 24/7 truck stop chain has paid the local media to hype it constantly. Every time Sheetz applies for a permit for a new station, the "news" reports it. Every time people push back on having a 24/7 truck stop in their residential neighborhood, the "news" reports it. Every time the city commission denies Sheetz' permit, the "news" reports it. Any excuse to run their stock footage of what a Sheetz is, is seized by the media. yap, Yap, YAP. Every new restaurant that opens is covered as "news". yap, Yap, YAP

Shinyland: all hype, all the time.
