Seems awfully quiet around here for the morning of an earnings report release.
I get a BV of $372,966 per A share and $248.64 per B share as of June 30, 2023. At $349.99, the current price per B share is just a hair over 1.4 times the June 30 book value per share. (Of course, the June 30 book value includes a big run-up in the price of Apple shares during the second quarter, which are down about 6% since then.)
After repurchasing a small amount of shares in April and May, Berkshire picked up the pace in June, repurchasing a little more than $1B of shares that month at average prices of $506,476.84 per A share and $335.55 per B share. Those are record highs for average repurchase prices.
The dropoff in earnings at BNSF and the flat earnings at BHE that bigshan noted are not exactly encouraging and seem, at least to me, to support Jim's concern that the "steady things" are not keeping up with inflation. See
