Right now on the Senate floor Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-Maryland) is enumerating just how destructive this tariff war will be, along with how much all the massive guts to government agencies will hurt "the average American", and he's certainly got all the details right, but he emotes zero passion. Who do Senators think they are speaking to when doing these floor speeches?
And where the hell are all the dems in Congress screaming to high heaven about what's going on?
And for that matter, where the hell are Kamala, Biden, Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc?
All I hear is crickets.

Print media. No one's in the chambers, and approximately zero people are watching on C-Span. These speeches are there so that print media (newspapers, bloggers, facebook articles, etc.) have a ready supply of quotes if they want to include a statement by a Democrat against the tariffs.
If there's going to be video that gets used in the nightly news, that will be delivered to the media gaggle outside of the chambers, where they get closer and have a better background. They typically won't use the C-span feed.

I don't pretend to know anything about why these people do what they do but this might fall in the category of "When the other guy is digging his own hole, don't interrupt" Let them tell their story.

A variation of the above. Maybe waiting for "the right moment." Like landing a big fish. Letting him run out some line. I believe I saw Obama saying something just today. Walked in as the story was wrapping up though. Biden? Do you really want him saying anything? Harris is sort of a puzzling.
