Looks like Trump has done a flip flop on repeal and replace. Now it’s:
“MAKE THE ACA, or OBAMACARE, AS IT IS KNOWN, MUCH BETTER, STRONGER, AND FAR LESS EXPENSIVE. IN OTHER WORDS, MAKE THE ACA MUCH, MUCH, MUCH BETTER FOR FAR LESS MONEY (OR COST) TO OUR GREST AMERICAN CITIZENS…”

LMAO. Just like he did when POTUS and it only took 'two weeks'...right? He will blithely tell any lie no matter how outrageous knowing that his base will either believe or just not care either way. Ludicrous.

We’ve been buying on Healthcare.gov the last 9 years. Repeal and “replace” was a yuge concern during the Trump years, and will be again if he gets in. Now he’s saying make it “better”, not repeal.
Of course, he lies and will do whatever is politically expedient at the time. And their idea of “better” likely will not agree with our idea of better - lower cost would be great, larger network of providers, lower deductibles, less reliance on tax subsidies.
One proposal from Republicans has been to remove the requirement for pregnancy coverage. Pro-life? That just boggles the mind.

So Republicans want you to pay more and have less health care? That’s an odd way to look at it.

Isn’t it?
But that’s exactly what we would have gotten if Trumpcare had passed in 2017. Higher costs for older people. Removal of some of the essential health benefits. Even Trump described it as “mean”.
The Republicans have no viable healthcare plan. They still talk about allowing insurance to be sold across state lines. What the heck would that do?

I've lost some money to out of state clients. It would have been too expensive and too much trouble to sue across state lines, and they sure weren't about to let me know when they were in my state to serve with a subpoena.
And even if I had filed, served, won in court, trying to collect from out of staters??? Forgetaboutit.
Litigious insurance companies could exploit the buffer that state lines could provide.
Imagine a pregnant woman in a blue state whose broker placed her with an insurance agency based in Arkansas. "Sorry ma'am; your procedure violated our church dogma. Coverage declined on order of Reverend Sarah Hucklebery Sanders."

Back on the AF board during the Obama years, we discussed that. You are correct, they have no viable healthcare plan because they are opposed to the very idea of it. They want less government, not more. The ACA was based on an alternative to Clintoncare from the 90s, partially conceived by the Heritage Foundation. The Reps didn't even want that, but they were hoping to torpedo Clintoncare (which they did). Obama took that up and modified it, hoping to get a few Reps to support it (and conservative Dems). Rather than implementing a Medicare-for-all system (which the Reps hated, and I think still do hate), which would have been vastly simpler and less expensive (Medicare has an overhead of something like 4%, where private insurance is at least twice that).
At this point repeal would be very unpopular. And I doubt we could morph it to Medicare-for-all because then the insurance companies would lose huge. And we can never allow a big lobby to lose money.

You mean besides introduce economies of scale and lower prices? Other than that?
The ACA isn’t any good. The only reason democrats claim to like it is because it has Obama’s name on it.

Selling Health Insurance across State Lines Harms Consumers
https://advocacy.consumerreports.org/wp-content/up...Did the last Republican proposal include selling across state lines? I can't remember. I can't find their latest proposal. Think they gave up on it.
...........
I'm self-employed. I like the ACA simply because it allows me to buy health insurance for my family.
Without tax subsidies ours is expensive, has high deductibles, and a very narrow network. I'm all for an improved system, but it must have guaranteed issue and essential health benefits. You know, just like employer plans have. Prior to the ACA it was a nightmare for those of us buying our own insurance.
For our family of 5 in 2023:
Premiums $21k (small subsidy)
Out of pocket $15k
The premiums are an above the line deduction. Out of pocket wasn't enough for a deduction.
