" Berkshire More Than Doubles Its Stake In Constellation Brands
In its May 15 13F filing, Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A)(BRK.B) revealed that it had purchased 6.6 million shares of Constellation Brands (NYSE:STZ), more than doubling its position to a total of 12 million shares or about 6.6% of the market cap. It's not certain whether it was Buffett or one of his two lieutenants, Todd Combs and Ted Weschler, who made the purpose. Many Berkshire purchases less than three or four billion are made by Combs and Weschler although doubling a stake over a couple of quarters would be somewhat unusual. In any case the value oriented principles of Buffett are clear in this case starting with its forward price earnings ratio of 15.3, making it one of the cheapest of alcohol distributors, much cheaper than the Consumer Staples sector, cheap by comparison with its own past history (normal historical PE 21 or so), and, of course, the overall valuation of the market as a whole. There are of course some good reasons for that it is cheap."
