I'll grant that it's better than it was just a couple of years ago. But a ready NATO looks like it did in 1990. A ready NATO also has secure energy supplies.

I agree. Energy supply is a horrendous vulnerability. Used to be that the US was offering a secure alternative to Russian supply. But, now, the US doesn't look all that reliable either. The EU will need to ramp up nuke, solar, and wind, a lot, or else depend on the middle east for oil, which introduces another set of vulnerabilities.
