Do you think the Franklin Mint is wishing they hadn't thought of it?

Like grifter, like griftess.

People, collectors have the option to buy or pass it up.

It isn’t like there is a bagman twisting your arm to buy.

Consumer Alert:

As a life-long (OK, since I was 10) coin collector, I would like to point out that people who buy third-party coins (Trump, Franklin Mint, etc.) aren’t collectors, they’re marks. Heck, even buying “special” coins at inflated prices from the U.S. Mint is incredibly stupid. 99.99% of the time all this crap turns out to be worthless (or in the case of the Mint, metal content or face value).

If you want to buy a Trump coin because you get a boner when you look at it, fine. But otherwise, you’d be better off spending your money on Beanie Babies (and please, don’t do that).

Yeah...

When I was young, either g-pa or dad (forget which) would gift me with Franklin Mint stuff. "Christmas ingot" and such. It's been a few years since I checked, but they are basically worth the value of the metal (silver) within. Nothing more.

I should probably drag them out and see if I can dump them for metal value. If I can find them. Haven't seen them in years, but I know they are around somewhere.

I also have some uncirculated currency (Kennedy 1971(?) silver dollar, $2 bill with some commemorative card, maybe a few others). All gifted at some point. I'd be surprised if the silver dollar is worth more than a dollar, even if it is in a plastic case.

It’s worth whatever the silver is worth.

Well, there’s plastic and there’s plastic. The coins I buy (it’s a hobby, NOT an investment) are encapsulated in either PCGS or NGC plastic slabs, from a reputable dealer I’ve worked with for decades. All 1940 and earlier. My favorite is a 1797 silver dollar. Well worn, but beautiful!

Favorite coin story:

Took my youngest son (when he was around 10) to the Smithsonian gold coin room. A huge amount of beautiful and historic gold coins.

He looked bug-eyed at all the gold coins and asked who they belong to.

I said they belong to all of the American people.

Without batting an eyelash, he asked “Which one is ours?”

Shows what I know...the Kennedy is 50 cents, not a dollar. It's in a hard plastic case, about 5x7. A quick look didn't find anything like it on ebay.

Ike is on the dollar coin.

I'm on a bit of a cleaning binge, so I'll probably did it out soon, and figure out something. Probably not worth the cost of appraisal...it would eat any profit I might get from the coin(s) and/or ingots.

bagman and scam your mark.

These were purchased packaged by some entity (US government?). It was where I expected, so I was able to retrieve it quickly. It's an uncirculated Eisenhower "United States Proof Coin". It's incased in a 4x5 plastic case (sealed, but not a plastic slab) nestled in a 5x7 holder.

Oooh...found it.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/205235166403?_skw=eisenho...

So, worth more than face value. I have two of them (my brother and I each were gifted one, and when he died, I inherited his). Of course, with collectibles, they're worth whatever someone is willing pay.

Funny thing, I seem to remember we used to have a law against Presidents remaining involved in their business... had to divest, right? What was it? Hmmm... some weird word that started with E... Elonification?? No, haha. Elonuments!! yeah that was it... er... EMOLUMENTS!!

In '16, Trump just blew off Emoluments. How quaint. Now, he's literally started a personal 100% profit making business while in office! This is next level stuff! Biden's nepotistic deals pulled in a few million to the family? PFFT! This will show him how it's REALLY done!

During Donald Trump’s first term, CREW tracked more than 3,700 conflicts of interest, as politicians, foreign governments and special interest groups sought access to both him and his administration by spending money at Trump properties. CREW estimated that as many as 30 special interest groups received favorable policy outcomes from the Trump administration after hosting an event at a Trump property and that Trump’s companies earned at least $13.6 million in payments from foreign governments. Additionally, during his time in office, 143 members of Congress visited Trump properties.

More fooling the Tools. Or is it tooling of the fools?
