I just sold all my DIS. Got tired of waiting for a CEO, and the divisions are doing OK but not great. Iger is fine, but he is not the future of the company, and they don't seem to be able to figure out what the future is, or who is going to take them there. Having the division chiefs compete is only a short-term strategy and IMHO we are now past that point. Some people say Iger will never leave and I am starting to wonder. Anyway, I have lost faith and I don't want to hold it any more. Maybe if they get a new CEO I will come back in. Onward!

Funny thing is, you never know if the new CEO is going to be decent or not until a couple years in. Look at the last one, who pushed quantity over quality and ended up with neither. Look at what happened to Home Depot when Nardelli took over.

Meanwhile, Iger is doing a decent job. The newer raft of movies are performing exceptionally well. The parks are crowded, if not packed. The cruises are packed, at least enough so that they have several new ships on order. The streaming service is profitable. They just acquired the rest of Hulu for $4.5 billion LESS than Comcast wanted.

Th8s is not to say there aren’t challenges, there certainly are. Streaming is decimating the traditional TV model on which ESPN and other channels depend. Some franchises are older: StarWars, even Marvel. Park and cruise costs are high and can’t be replaced by automation. And one of the strengths (diversity of offerings) is also a weakness, because it makes it hard to effect big changes quickly. You can add a new park, but not fast. You can add ships, but not fast. You can make more and better movies, but that takes years, too.

I’d rather have Iger there for the next couple years than anybody else I can think of. But yeah, succession is a big deal too. That said, it’s an American and industry giant. It’s not gonna be a rocket ship to the moon anytime soon.
