He could be a cynical opportunist, or, he could be a true convert. Remember the 80s, when being a "born again Christian fundamentalist" was so fashionable? There is nothing worse than the zealotry of a convert. As he tolerates his wife being a Hindu, I lean toward "cynical opportunist"

Yes, I just roll me eyes every time I hear/read that. We are NOT a Xian nation, never have been, and we even stated that in official documents. Specifically, the Treaty of Tripoli:

As the Government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion...They stomp their feet, and scream to the rooftops, but it just ain't so. And never has been. They should really stop saying it because it just makes them look stupid (or, at least, ignorant of fact).
