Trump says $500m deal reached with Harvard to settle dispute

Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his administration had reached a deal with Harvard and that the school would pay $500m to settle the dispute between the federal government and the university.

“Linda is finishing up the final details,” Trump told reporters at an event in the Oval Office, referring to Linda McMahon, the education secretary. “And they’ll be paying about $500m and they’ll be operating trade schools. They’re going to be teaching people how to do AI and lots of other things, engines, lots of things.”

Importantly, there was nothing at all from Harvard in that article. No confirmation. No denial. Nothing.

With history as a guide, that usually means Trump is lying.

If you want to put a positive spin on it, he’s trying to announce a deal as a negotiating tactic to get Harvard to a deal.

A more negative spin is that Trump is so far down the dementia path that he actually believes he’s got a deal when he really doesn’t.

I any case, I think there is no deal in spite of what Trump is saying.

All the yes-men in his echo chamber tell him it's true. That is all that matters.
