USS Stockdale intercepts Russian ship near Venezuela as Maduro’s $3B fuel lifeline slams shut
On November 13, 2025, the USS Stockdale positioned itself directly across the path of the Seahorse, a Russian‑linked tanker carrying naphtha bound for Venezuela. No shots were fired. No dramatic confrontation unfolded. Yet within seconds, a decision was made that could reshape Caribbean geopolitics for years. The tanker altered course toward Cuba, its mission temporarily interrupted by American naval power.
Between mid‑November and November 20, the Seahorse attempted the journey toward Venezuela multiple times. Each attempt ended the same way: a U.S. destroyer, including the USS Stockdale, appeared in its path, and the tanker turned away.
On November 23, the Seahorse finally reached Venezuelan territorial waters. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/world/uss-stockdale...Seems that repeatedly obstructing a civilian ship, on the high seas, runs counter to the "law of the sea". Good thing Shinyland is so "exceptional", that it is exempt, and is free to write it's own laws.

Preventing free commerce on the high seas is an act of war.
Was this done in consultation with Congress? Or did Trump unilaterally decide it was a good idea?
Are you ready to go to war over some rust bucket, probably flagged in Liberia?

Again, this was likely sanctions enforcement, which is an executive branch function and subject to Executive Order.
Are you against punishing Putin all of a sudden? What did you think that would look like?

Well, then, why don't we seize every ship on the high seas that can be connected to Russian ownership, auction off the ship and cargo, and pocket the proceeds?

What is the legal justification being given? These are international waters, governed by international laws.
Are we now throwing all of that out the window and deciding to unilaterally act to enforce a blockade?
What will we do if China decides to use this as a precedent to interdict shipping in the Taiwan Strait?

The Navy isn't big enough.

The Russian shadow fleet is said to number about 1000, give or take. Yes, much more numerous than the number of DDs that the USN has. But we are talking PROFIT!!! Keep those "suckers and losers" who enlisted, running 24/7 grabbing tankers, so his nibs can make more PROFIT!!
Of course, the US could start issuing "letters of marque" again. Watch the hordes apply, to run their second hand frigates, grabbing Russian tankers, for prize money from the US.

The international sanctions put into place by the G7 via agreement.

Based on what predicate? That Taiwan is a murderous dictatorship that's bullying its neighbors?
You've trapped yourself between 2 opposing I HATE TRUMP positions here:
1. I HATE TRUMP because he's not sufficiently supporting the Ukrainians!
2. I HATE TRUMP because he's bullying Venezuela!
...except in this case, he needs to interdict the ship to make you happy.

I know you are kidding, Steve, but it does seem that Trump is dragging the entire world back into the 18th century.
Unfortunately, the weaponry in the hands of many nations is decidedly 21st century.
Nuclear weapons in the hands of 18th century powers. I wonder what would have happened?
Perhaps we are about to find out.
The post WW2 world order, even with its problems, was built to reduce the danger of nuclear war. And for 80 years, it has succeeded.
That world order is being dismantled by Donald Trump.

Right. So let's have Putin fund his criminal war machine via gas sales to other rogue nations.

The world order is being dismantled by Trump, but we've had sanctions against Venezuela for decades so I'm sure there's a number of EOs we can point to that have nothing to do with rump to support the blockade of that Russian ship. No biggee.

Yes, time flies. It has been nearly 20 years since Chavez nationalized the Exxon and ConocoPhilips holdings in Venezuela. Chavez was tight with the Cuban regime too, which always riles up a south Florida voting block.
