Solely for the atheist board at this point. Nice work Manlobbi!

Ok, I looked for a way to edit my post, but didn't find it. Any chance of that feature being added? But since it didn't exist on the old TMF site, I suspect it won't be easy though.

<< I suspect it won't be easy though.>>

I can add it, but it isn't a technical question but only cultural. Most of the community exactly wants to keep the original 25 year culture preserved so I am careful what to change. 'When it works, don't change it'.

Hypothesizing, the ability to not edit might influence people to take extra care in posting, as well as possibly encouraging longer posts and less of a Twitter-like culture, which some of the community here would do anything to be 180 degrees away from.

In any case, there are always second or third order effects to such change that I also cannot predict. If I added an edit feature then it would be more like a short-term undo feature to remove your own post filled with too many errors, before it was read or 5 minutes, whichever first, for example.

To me one of the two biggest shortcomings of the old Fool software was the inability to edit posts. (I always did Preview first, but even then the occasional typo would slip through, and there were lots of people who didn't bother with that step.) The new Fool software is an improvement, to be sure. (The original intent, as said to me more than once by more than one Fool employee was that because it was an 'investing' site, they didn't want people going back and changing their prediction or their 'buy' price or whatever after-the-fact.) I took that as reasonable, although given my experience in the new realm that hasn't turned out to be a problem at all.

The other shortcoming was, obviously, the inability to post pictures and charts (well, charts could be done, but only with incredible labor which few did). As it turns out they did add that to the code, but only allowed it on the Premium side. Why it wasn't added to both I don't know, except perhaps to give the paying customers a better experience? Or perhaps they were afraid that with their 'non-investing' boards like PA that it would turn into meme central and take gobs of bandwidth and hosting resources. Don't know.

But your boards would be improved, IMO, with some period of editing (longer, I think, than 'before read' as I often catch my typos hours later) and the ability to post and host pics, etc.

My 1.082', inflation adjusted.

Noted.

We also could allow editing 'before replied to' (within one day) rather than 'before read'.

Some people want to correct without showing previous versions, as sometimes they really want to remove something that they said.

For posting pictures in the meantime, just upload to Google Drive or Dropbox and copy-paste the url. It is easy.

There is something elegant about the text orientation of these boards that many people like also.

When a culture emerges over 25 years (not sustained, but actually growing there) then there are good reasons for it that are often unconscious.

Yes, it would have to be a short term edit capability it it's done at all. I'd raise the delay to an hour, but keep the 'but not if already read' restriction. Sometimes I post, walk away for a bit and only read it when I come back. :-)

Nice work Manlobbi!

I'll second that. Well done, Manlobbi!

I joined for the Berkshire board. Glad to see this board created also.
Didn't post much on AF. Did like to follow along and learned a lot.
Hope the conversation continues here.
