Personally I think it has more to do with Melinda not being there than it does with Bill still being there.* Her departure is the recent news, after all.
I think he liked the original tag team management setup at BMG. The official condition was merely that at least one of them "remain alive and active in the policy-setting and administration", but I suspect he preferred two to one, the dynamic duo.

Perhaps Warren doesn't think as highly of Bill Gates as he once did.
Maybe he just likes what his kids have done on a smaller scale in the interleaving time. And maybe he doesn’t like that Melissa is no longer involved. No way to tell, really, but the Gates Foundation still has plenty of shekels to deal.

I think Warren wants the family control of BRK's culture and voting control to continue as long as possible. Devoting what shares he has remaining when he passes to his children's control - whereby ending the Gates Foundation contributions - is the surest way to do do. No further dilution.
He's not backing away from his promises after his first wife passed. He's just ending it when they're kept.
As an aside, I raised the question with friends if this might permit removing purchases of Microsoft from the "forbidden" list? Buffett did so because, like Caesars wife, he wanted to be "above suspicion" in terms of not profiting from any inside info from Bill Gates.

I can understand Warren's position. But MST could have been a large and rewarding investment over the years had Warren not been so concerned about any hint of such. That's part of having WEB as CEO.

100% agree. I believe Warren's thinking has evolved with respect to Berkshire's future after him. He doesn't want Berkshire's voting control to be in the hands of index fund CEOS like Fink after he is gone. This is the surest way to ensure that doesn't happen.

Totally agree. As much as both Warren and his generous and thoughtful children are pleased to have the ownership power and control stay within the Buffett family, I imagine that Berkshire itself- its health and culture, it’s employees and the financial well-being and web of deserved trust given to him for 7 decades by family, friends and individual owners like ourselves are the Very highest of priorities in this decision making. And of course all the enormous good his compounded and amazing life’s work will provide humanity in ways we can only imagine. Bless you Warren for always thinking about us partners in these enormous personal decisions.

I think this is a reflection of how much his children (especially Howard) have embraced the philanthropy role the past few years. They have always been involved to some degree, but it seems the past few years that Howard has pushed it to a higher gear. He always had enough other "hobbies" to keep him busy, but it seems lately that he has moved more and more into philanthropy and running his Foundation.
I think Warren has recognized this.

It is a great joy to come to this board and find it so focused on substantive content and not filled with political bait posts. Every once in a while, I get a glimpse into that alternative reality because I poster I haven't blocked comments on a thread created by someone who I have blocked. Then, I am given this glimpse into a crazy thread that I was blissfully ignorant of. When I get the glimpse, I am mostly grateful to Manlobbi for giving me the ability to be blinded to the crazy of it all.

Silence and lack of reaction to their posts sucks the oxygen out of crazy, while engagement of any kind just feeds the energy. .... Before vaccines, the Covid death rate was pretty high, especially for seniors and those with comorbidities. After vaccines, it seems to have improved (per capita, not total).

Children’s Health Defense reporter Michael Nevradakis just published the only serious coverage I can find of the remarkable fact that Bill Gates has been summoned to a Dutch court, where he is being sued by seven vaccine-injured plaintiffs for making false and misleading statements about COVID-19 vaccines.
My goodness, Gates’s public image has come a long way since 1998, when he was widely presented in the American media as the most ruthless monopolist since John D. Rockefeller. To get a sense of his penchant for petulant arrogance back then, check out the following video of his deposition to a DoJ investigator in the U.S. v. Microsoft antitrust case.
Like John D. Rockefeller, Gates cleaned up his public image by starting a Foundation whose official mission is to promote public health. This reminds me of Robin Williams’s standup joke back in the eighties that “President Reagan’s appointment of James Watt to Secretary of Interior is like having Charles Manson as a male nurse.”
Back at the turn of the 21st century, Gates was widely regarded as a creep. Now I cannot find a single mainstream media reference to his legal trouble in the Netherlands.
It reminds me of the Columbia Journalism Review feature in 2020 Journalism’s Gates keepers. Clearly most MSM reporters and their editors and producers are indistinguishable from prostitutes, though the comparison is probably unfair to sex workers, who don’t pretend to be something else.

The point is that naked links are mostly useless. Add your commentary about it, even if only one sentence. The same goes for endlessly posting naked links to SEC filings. We all get automated notifications and/or emails when our favorite companies have an SEC filing. So getting a random SEC link here, with no commentary about it, is mostly useless.
