This article in Seeking Alpha, uses a valuation model suggested by Tom Gayner, to arrive at a value of $1765. The current market price $1335 is a 25% discount to this value.

Mr. Market took exception to the fall in book value, those Gayner took pains to emphasize it was temporary due to fall in value of bonds which would be reversed in future as they intend to hold them till maturity.

Using a 1.5 to 1.6 P/BV simplistic valuation as many do, yields a much lower value.

I am hoping interest in this board will increase and more people will post. I think not being able to customize the Favorites to include boards you are interested in, regardless of how many posts it has, makes boards like Markel invisible to most users. You have to navigate to the board to see if there are any new posts. I am not sure too many users may even know there is a new post in MKL board.

Favourites do not relate to how many posts a board has. You add a board to your Favourites by recommending just one post, or writing just one post, and you remove boards from your Favourites with the "customise" icon shown below the favourites board list.

Note that your above post, despite the Markel board just starting now, is your most recommended post of the last three weeks. Never underestimate how much readers look around Shrewd'm.

Board frequency is a very poor indicator of how much the board is valued by the community. In the past some boards would receive one or two posts a month but still each post had many recommendations, with readers checking back on the boards consistently.

You have to navigate to the board to see if there are any new posts.

You don't have to navigate to each board. If you visit "Favourites" it shows which boards have received a new post with a yellow star appearing to the right of those boards.

Manlobbi thank you for explaining how the Favorites works. I had expected it to work like the TMF boards, where you customized it by selecting all the boards you wanted to follow.

I noticed that the Markel board appeared in my Favorites as soon as soon as I sent a post.

5 year average PBV 1.403. currently trading at 1.419.
