I also have some uncirculated currency (Kennedy 1971(?) silver dollar, $2 bill with some commemorative card, maybe a few others). All gifted at some point. I'd be surprised if the silver dollar is worth more than a dollar, even if it is in a plastic case.
Well, there’s plastic and there’s plastic. The coins I buy (it’s a hobby, NOT an investment) are encapsulated in either PCGS or NGC plastic slabs, from a reputable dealer I’ve worked with for decades. All 1940 and earlier. My favorite is a 1797 silver dollar. Well worn, but beautiful!
Favorite coin story:
Took my youngest son (when he was around 10) to the Smithsonian gold coin room. A huge amount of beautiful and historic gold coins.
He looked bug-eyed at all the gold coins and asked who they belong to.
I said they belong to all of the American people.
Without batting an eyelash, he asked “Which one is ours?”
