Having been in Europe, I can attest that TIPs are not expected. Though, those that deal with Americans a lot know that we tend to do that, and I'm sure they don't mind the extra cash. But most of the time, they don't even offer you the option. And, as stated in this video, some cultures are genuinely offended if you offer a TIP (e.g. Japan).

There should be one federal minimum wage, whether you're a TIPped employee or not. I have long thought this, not just because of recent discussions of minimum wage.

I found it both amusing, and offensive, that an automated kiosk with no human present was asking for a TIP. Really?? I'm not TIPping a robot.

Liberals can't stand tipping. They hide behind "just pay a better wage!!!!!" '

NewsFlash was the shit more expensive in Europe? Duh. Come back here to USA:

Let's say you have lunch for 2. $50.00. You gotta tip on top of that.

Now let's pretend ZERO tipping, higher wages for your waitress:

1.)Do you think the owner of the cafe, or the corporation who owns the restaurant will REDUCE their profit margin by THAT much? Do you feel they have that much margin to begin with? Are restaurants easy? Or risky?

2.)If they decide "ok, I'll eat the cost. I wanna own this business and give away most of my profit. I'll do this for break-even"------do you think they'll find ways to get RID of staff? Look at Fast Food even though there's no tipping. Did all that "$15 an hour!" stuff help? Or did it motivate the use of kiosks and soon AU?

Again- if our servers are paid higher wages, YOUR price ----goes *up*. So what's the difference?

Difference is - Liberals hate paying Ian individual. Can't stand it.

BTW: How's the service at WalMart? Verizon? Cable? Real good huh? What's wrong with as a consumer, preserving one of the LAST powers we have to reward, or penalize service?

Instead of a $60 meal.....I like paying $50----and then having the ability to decide what to tip.

Fast forward: More and more people will lose an entry into the workforce. I wonder what angry, broke, unemployed folks will do in their spare time?

You obviously didn't watch the video. He addressed most of what you just said, both pro and con. IMHO, the con outweighed the pro.

Again- if our servers are paid higher wages, YOUR price ----goes *up*. So what's the difference?

Again, addressed in the video. But I'll address this specific point. The answer is "none", even if people perceive it differently (a study also covered in the piece). But, there is a difference from the server's side. Between cheap bastards and "tip sharing", some get almost nothing. They'd be better-off staying at home and collecting welfare.

IMO, sub-minimum wage should not be allowed. And, yes, I want my server properly compensated. I suspect you'd call me a "lib", and I do not begrudge paying for service as part of the price of my meal. And if they're really good, I'll tip more.

Side note: a lot of local establishments have increased their wages, and now don't expect tips. Not even a tip jar, or credit card prompt, or anything. Some you have to ask if you can tip. Just had a banh mi earlier this week, and that was the situation. After getting a haircut nearby, where that also was the situation.
