For you foreigners , when I visit dollar stores, I always ask employees, how long have you worked here? The answer is usually, less than 6 months. '' LOS ANGELES ' Alongside fast-food workers, labor leaders, and legislators, Governor Gavin Newsom today signed legislation increasing the minimum wage for fast-food employees to $20 per hour, beginning April 1, 2024.' DG has to pay up for decent labor, going forward.

I agree, pay will have to go up in California, and probably other states as well if they want to attract anyone decent. Avg pay in Texas, looking at Indeed, is around $10-11 per hour for a cashier/stocker.

The group that pushed the 20$$ minimum wage for fast food workers in Cali claims it's going country wide. And this, '' CVS says it will close NINE HUNDRED stores by the end of 2024 - 10% of all its shops - as it moves to online strategy amid rampant increase in shoplifting. ''

I wonder if this 'shrinkage' problem is not more of a problem in cities, particularly some of the cities where police are apparently refusing to respond, and maybe not so much of a problem in the small towns that the dollar stores target? In the Q2 report, they do mention shrinkage, but it's just one thing among others: This gross profit rate decrease was primarily attributable to lower inventory markups and increased shrink, markdowns, and inventory damages, as well as a greater proportion of sales coming from the consumables category, which generally has a lower gross profit rate than other product categories.
