bighairymike: And just guessing here that it is much much easier and way less stressful to be out of your home for year if you are a well connected multi millionaire than it is for a humble shopkeeper living week on week on a meager income.

Not guessing here because I looked it up and according to Open Secrets in 2004 when the Biden's kitchen was destroyed by fire, his net worth was $41,505. He was ranked 98 out of 100 on the senate wealth scale (only two senators had less personal wealth).
