It's pretty clear which side today's republicans would have cheered back in 1930s Germany.

Just as a point of history, both parties did (to varying degrees). Plus, there was the American Bund.

Back then, both parties were a mix of ideologies. Not like today's homogeneous parties. There really were conservative Dems back then, for example.

But, yes, today the Reps would be more supportive of the autocrat (as they are in Russia, and elsewhere).
