"Greater good" is squishy, so you dodged the question. I quote the original question for you again:
Imagine you were a Senator. That same bill comes to the floor, but it's got an extra provision in it. It has a provision that bars any state from prohibiting abortion in the first trimester. It makes it a federal crime to commit infanticide and it would undo nearly every first-trimester abortion restriction in the Red states.
As a senator, you can either vote 'yea' or 'nay'. Is it the "greater good" to allow a prohibition on bans of first-trimester abortions if you can get the "Born Alive" act in the deal? I'm curious about your answer, also. And it does illustrate the compromises elected officials have to make to get some of what they want.
