Here's a great book about the start of the Civil War and the true reason for secession (spoiler alert: it was SLAVERY). Well researched, as all this author's books are and fascinating.

Over and over again the southern secessionists make very clear they are leaving the Union to preserve sacred slavery. If you have any reason to think otherwise, this book would convince you that you are wrong.
