I suspect because the right-wing tends towards "I got mine, you're on your own". Many think that if people have to fend for themselves, they'll straighten-up and fly-right (no pun intended). Many more (a majority?) think "I worked for my money, why should some of it be given to these freeloaders?!". The Goofus/Gallant theory we discussed on the Olde Boards.

By no means is the left free from corruption and graft. But I think the different mindsets may lessen it a bit on the left versus the right. And, yes, those with authoritarian mindsets would be even worse. Such as Trump.
