Actually there are many CEOs who do this, take no salary only performance bonus. They include

Zuck at Meta (née Facebook)
Larry and Sergey at Alphabet (née Google)
Fairbank at CapitolOne
Smith at Axon

So yes it is a nice gesture and Abel follows in a long tradition of CEOs doing this.
