I'm not sure it's a "sources of information" problem, but as noted by The Argument article above, there's more skepticism on the part of liberals towards how "real" this performance is than is probably warranted.

They've gone from something like 49th to...16th overall. That's insanely good.

And their low-income kids are beating Michigan's by 17 points. Wow.

It should be a national story with others lining up to emulate their success...but it's not. The odd article from NYT otherwise.
