Could that officer have jumped out of the way without shooting? Maybe, maybe not. He had to make the decision in a split second. Not with 20-20 hindsight. Not with knowledge of the SUV driver's politics.

Yes, he had to make a split second decision. A normal "self preservation" response would be to get out of the way. The car was not moving that fast. The video shows his first response was to pull his gun. By the time he fired the third shot, he was a full arm's length clear of the car.
