If the Longshoreman strike goes on too long, these perishable products will not be sold, losing a whole seasons worth of production and income for the producers.

I would think a consumable would just create a domestic "glut". Prices would fall because there was too much supply. Other nations would be in a world of hurt, though, as many rely on US agricultural exports to feed their people. I also would think that it would fuel inflation for any imported goods (like pretty much everything in the Walmart inventory, i.e. "made in China"). Which folks at home would not be happy about, and might color the upcoming election.
