This is a regime that we should trust?
Negotiation has a presumption of good faith.
When one of the parties says mutually contradictory things repeatedly in the same press conference, starts a war in the middle of negotiations, ignores treaties it is a party to, ignores its putative allies and then threatens them for not coming to its aid, promises war crimes on top of its existing war crimes, and in general proves itself completely untrustworthy with virtually every statement it makes, the other party is going to have a hard time signing onto any "deal" on offer.
And that applies generally to anyone attempting to work with this government, since continuous lying and threats is its approach to everything now.
