The first unit of Marines, on the USS Tripoli, according to the net sifter, could be on station at the Persian Gulf "as early as March 25-26". A ship tracking site says she passed the Malacca Strait on March 17.

USS Boxer, carrying the second contingent of Marines, is expected on station three weeks after sailing March 20th.

They'd have to sail through the Strait to get into the gulf. Not sure how safe that would be. Do we have any ships in the gulf?
