The big problem is that a significant portion of Congress will not raise taxes. There is no other way, unless you want to take big bites out of Medicare and SS. Eliminating the CPB, and other similar proposals, don't even amount to rounding errors. And for the "bloated military" people (some on the extreme left), you could close the Pentagon entirely, disband all branches, and it still wouldn't be enough to close the budget deficit.
Maybe there was a time when eliminating "pork" would have made a dent, but not anymore. Unless you consider Medicare "pork".
We either raise taxes, or we will pay a huge price later when the economy crashes. Plus the huge price we're paying in interest on the debt.
I know it's not popular, but it is necessary. It won't happen in the next four years, and probably not when a Dem wins again in 2028 (likely...I think the convict contributed to Biden's win in 2020 because he was just sooooo horrible, even Biden looked good). It's one of the few campaign promises that everyone likes, and can often be enacted. Even if the results are uniformly disastrous.
