Second, the excerpt you posted contains some bias. "Genocidal war" I don't think applies. They aren't trying to wipe out a tribe, or a different ethnic group (like the Hutus and Tutsis). This was purely a ploy to solidify control over Crimea by seizing the land bridge, and trying to force any peace plan to include Ukraine not being in NATO (or, possibly, just taking them over entirely).

At least as I think of "genocide", this really isn't it. Not that this makes the war any better, but it is an emotional adjective, and I don't think it applies.
