Subject: more Trump flailing
He’s making increasingly outlandish false claims: At his rallies, note The Post’s Marianne LeVine and Clara Ence Morse, Trump brings up Hannibal Lecter. It’s often in the context of immigration — as if to conflate asylum seekers at the border with the 1991 movie about a cannibalistic serial killer in an insane asylum. He holds rambling news conferences from his estate in Mar-a-Lago.
He downplayed the importance of the Medal of Honor, which is awarded to wounded or dead soldiers — inviting easy attacks from Democrats about his lack of military service.
This week, he claimed Harris led a “violent” coup to overtake Biden. In addition to being false, this also opened up comparisons to what happened under his watch, when his supporters violently attacked Congress as lawmakers were certifying his opponent’s win.
He has also attacked the popular Republican governor of Georgia, a must-win state for him; he has repeated lies that he won the 2020 election; and far-right influencers have turned on his campaign. WAPO
