Subject: Re: That 70s Show - Oil disruption
Escalating Iranian attacks and the U.S. government’s decision to hold off on military escorts for oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz are raising the prospect of a prolonged closure that would choke off exports through the world’s most important energy-transport route…
Those rugged, Perry class, frigates that served so well in the 80s and 90s, are all gone now, either decomissioned or sold to other countries. The follow on LCS program was an abortion. The Constellation class frigate program was an abortion. Most of the Ticonderoga class cruisers are decomissioned. So, performing escort missions in the Gulf would require pulling Burke class DDGs away from carrier escort duty, because there is nothing else. Thank decades of rampant corruption in DoD procurement.
