Subject: My weekend
When I haven't been reading books or looking at old and recent photos this weekend, I spent most of my time with Richard Feynmann, well actually his voice and the people who knew him. Freakonomics Radio did a series of shows about him back in 2024. It was broken into 4 one-ish hour long segments.

The first one starts with the beginning and the end of his career: The Manhattan Project and The Challenger Commission.

The Curious Mr. Feynman
From the Manhattan Project to the Challenger investigation, the physicist Richard Feynman loved to shoot down what he called “lousy ideas.” Today, the world is awash in lousy ideas — so maybe it’s time to get some more Feynman in our lives? (Part one of a three-part series.)

The second one deals with his personal life, his first wife's death, his womanizing, his 2nd and 3rd mariages, his children, and his teaching career at Cornell and Cal Tech.

The Brilliant Mr. Feynman
What happens when an existentially depressed and recently widowed young physicist from Queens gets a fresh start in California? We follow Richard Feynman out west, to explore his long and extremely fruitful second act. (Part two of a three-part series.)

The third one looks at his role in science in a world that is becoming more anti-scientific and the role of science in the world.

The Vanishing Mr. Feynman
In his final years, Richard Feynman’s curiosity took him to some surprising places. We hear from his companions on the trips he took — and one he wasn’t able to. (Part three of a three-part series.)

The fourth one is a bonus episode that is an an conversation with the people who knew Feynman as he explored his mind with LSD and psylocybin mushrooms.

Mr. Feynman Takes a Trip — But Doesn’t Fall
A wide-open conversation with three women who guided Richard Feynman through some big adventures at the Esalen Institute. (Part of our Feynman series.)

I hope you have had a good weekend.
