That succinctly describes the Rush Limbaugh show that shaped Dope's dunk tank schtick.

Driving in the 90s, I listened to Limbaugh for several years- primarily because he was funny, but his humor depended on doing exactly that- reframing what liberals said into something that bore no resemblance to what they actually said.

And the point was not to generate only laughter, but most importantly- hatred and contempt.

Of course the thing I remember most about him was his insistence that his audience consisted of conservative, independent thinkers, and he called them “dittoheads”, which is what they also called themselves, showing no awareness that the joke was on them.

Rush, as much as anyone, contributed to lack of critical thinking on the right, and the rise of Trumpism as the anti- democratic cancer it has become.
