You should really watch Perun on YouTube. He covers a lot of this stuff, and for different nations. He recently did a bit on littoral combat ships, and the issues we have had with them (e.g. spec'ing them to do things that aren't littoral). He does deep dives in defense economics, and defense planning. The advent of the drone is also covered, which has proven to be a game-changer. No one was planning for the prevalence of drones, much to the chagrin of the Russian Navy (which has lost a LOT of ships to drones), plus surveillance and combat operations (destroying tanks and artillery, and even targeting oil refineries in Russia). The US Navy hasn't planned for that. We're able to deal with the drones, but it is expensive (much more expensive than the drones themselves). And what if they launch 100 drones at one of our ships...it would probably overwhelm the defenses of even an Arleigh-Burke.

Lots of good analysis on his channel. No, I am not getting a kick-back from him. He's just that good.
