September 10, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum proposed canceling the Public Lands Rule, which was established in 2024 to give conservation uses equal status with commercial uses in land management decisions by the Bureau of Land Management. WY mine change approval - On September 9, the Department of the Interior approved a change in the Black Butte Mine plan, allowing it to expand into two new areas and recover 9.2 million more tons of coal. The mine expansion was expedited through new “alternative arrangements under the National Environmental Policy Act,” including a 10-day public comment period. Source: Department of the Interior
