While the rate of growth of US population is slowing, it’s still growing.

The number that matters is people in the labor force.

No sense creating jobs that you can't fill. Hence, the move in the US to forced labor, like the Medicaid work requirement, to force people to work/work more hours, to keep their Medicaid coverage. Michigan tried a Medicaid work requirement a few years ago. Sponsors of the bill said it was all about forcing people to take jobs that "JCs" complained they could not fill. A County Sheriff in metro Detroit just proposed another forced labor program, as an alternative to putting certain people in jail.
