Parents areRrepublican. Father is a sheriff. Family is Christian.
Christian, or Mormon? According to reactionary Christians, LDS is a cult. I was watching, when Mitt Romney was running for POTUS, and taking so much heat for being a Mormon, that he went on national TV to reassure people he would not turn the US into a Mormon theocracy, but, he would not, personally, abandon the faith of his fathers. When his dad, George, ran for POTUS in 68, there was a lot of chatter that he was not qualified, because he was not born in the US. George was born in Mexico, of US citizen parents. Why were his parents in Mexico? Some years before, the US government tried to force the Mormons to abandon plural marriage. A lot of Mormons moved to Mexico, because the Mexican government would leave them alone.
The Mormon colonies in Mexico (Spanish: colonias Mormonas en México) are settlements located near the Sierra Madre mountains in northern Mexico which were established by members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) beginning in 1885.[1]: 86–99 The colonists came to Mexico due to federal attempts to curb and prosecute polygamy in the United States.[1]: 67–85 Plural marriage, as polygamous relationships were called by church members, was an important tenet of the church—although it was never practiced by a majority of the membership.
