It's the vanity. The peer pressure to use pronouns.
I don't want to "peddle" this stuff. Until the right had a conniption, I never gave it a second thought. I call people what they ask me to call them. If you're name is Rodger, and I call you "Rodge", and you say "no, it's Rodger". It would be extremely rude of me to persist with "Rodge".
I don't think it's liberals making this an issue. It's the so-called conservatives. Liberals are just calling people what they want to be called, be it pronouns or hyphenations or whatever.
I agree with you that conservatives have managed (somehow!) to make this an issue, but it really isn't. It's about as much of a non-issue as it is possible to be.
As for kids, the bluer states have better educational outcomes than the redder states. So I don't think pronouns are hurting them much. Teaching the bible instead of algebra and biology is hurting them a lot more.
