Who's in power right now?

Conservatives were in power from the 2017 Brexit vote throughout mid-2024. Actual Brexit shut down easy immigration for EU citizens, instead, those governments opened the doors wide to non-EU immigrants (UK JCs likely pushing), resulting in numbers going up rather than down, peaking in 2023. Labour on balance slightly tightened the rules.

Recall the reason why Reform exists: Basically the Tories were implementing the exact same policies Labour wanted. Hence Farage took his ball and went to start up Reform in the first place. The Tories are essentially finished as a national party; they ignored the base and became Labour-light. Now they're gone.
