First, the article, which presented ethical arguments for a hypothetical health issue, was written by a university philosophy professor and a fourth-year medical student and included the clear disclaimer that the views expressed "are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views and policies of the AMA." Second, it was published in the AMA Journal of Ethics, an editorially independent journal from the AMA. Third, had the Washington Examiner simply run its article past the AMA, it would have bee informed that the AMA did not endorse the procedure.
