I wonder if NASA spent time and $$$$ studying the feasibility of reusable rockets and abandoned them as impractical at that time. They seem to still be impractical. Of course that may be because of my inability to learn.

Well, the reusable SpaceX Falcon 9 has been flying great for close to 500 launches. (https://www.spacex.com/vehicle...) Of course, it too exploded a lot in the early days.

As this point, I wouldn't bet a whole lot of money against Starship eventually becoming highly reliable.
