Subject: Re: Talarico V. Crockett
You're saying Jasmine Crockett is "too black and too female" to win a DEMOCRAT primary election?
Nope. We’re saying that Democrats are realists, and many Texas Republicans are racist.
In the entire history of the state, they have never had a black US Senator. In fact, in the history of the state they have only had four State Senators in the local legislature, and three of those were during Reconstruction. (The fourth was Barbara Jordan, who was elected after the racist voting districts were outlawed and blacks had a chance to elect *someone* who they felt would fairly represent them. She went on to become a US Representative, but never Senator.)
It’s simply true that a black woman is unlikely to be elected to the US Senate in Texas. It may also be true that a white Democrat can’t either, but the reasons are different. In the most recent election the incumbent (who always has an advantage) was Ted Cruz, and he won by 53% to 48% (rounded), a not insurmountable lead given the right candidate and the electorate swing from Republicans - if that materializes. It may not. Then again, a Christian talking white man willo probably play better there than a “liberal firebrand”, as she has been labeled.
Racial. It’s different than “racist”.
