Dope1: What stage of gestation is that? Bear in mind before you answer that no democrat has said a word about where a line would be drawn.
I imagine most democrats don't draw a line because different circumstances have different answers in terms of timing, and because most democrats believe that abortion is a decision that belongs under the control of a woman and her physician or medical team.
But the data say 93.5% of abortions were performed at ≤13 weeks’ gestation; a smaller number of abortions (5.7%) were performed at 14–20 weeks’ gestation, and even fewer (0.9%) were performed at ≥21 weeks’ gestation.
As long as we're talking 'timing,' most miscarriages, about 80 percent, happen in the first trimester before the 10th week of pregnancy. The risk of miscarriage usually decreases after 12 weeks gestation.
Third trimester abortions are rare, usually are performed because the fetus is no longer viable or because the woman's life or future ability to have children is at risk. Specialized clinics are required for third term abortions as well as specially trained medical teams.
The number of legalized abortions peaked in the late 1980s and early 1990s at about 1.6 million. In 2021, the CDC said there were 622,108 abortions performed in the U.S.
There are about 1 million pregnancies ending in miscarriage (a loss occurring prior to 20 weeks of gestation) per year and over 20,000 ending in stillbirth at or beyond 20 weeks of gestation.
