So what does Gaetz do when the Senate fails to confirm him? Is he out of a job (fingers crossed)?
Most likely is that Trump appoints him to a job in the White House, which doesn't need Senate confirmation. Deputy chief of some policy area or other - probably something that oversight over DOJ and law enforcement. Something that gives him policy control over the DOJ, even if he can't be the nominal head.
Then Trump nominates someone super-compliant to be the AG, and tells him to do whatever Gaetz tells him to do.
