Subject: Re: lol@ Jewish James Bond
Why is it inappropriate to ask him about his connections to Israel, when it's open season on Walz or Biden connections to China, or Biden connections to Ukraine?
Because they didn't ask Walz about whether he was an Israeli agent. One presumes - if they asked everyone if they were an Israeli agent, then it's probably fine, but we probably would have heard about it if they had asked Walz and Kelly the same question. But if they asked Walz about his connections to China based on his business dealings there, and asked Shapiro about whether he's an Israeli agent based on the fact that he's Jewish and did a high school trip there, then those are two very different things.
Where it gets blurry is that many (most?) Jewish Americans have connections to Israel, and the sort of high school educational trip to Israel that Shapiro participated in is a very common Jewish-American experience. The intimation that having that kind of past connection with a country would lead you to be an agent of that country's government is one that gets very close into prejudicial thinking. If you wouldn't ask an Italian-American candidate who might have spent a semester studying abroad in Italy whether they were an agent of the Italian government, then you probably shouldn't ask the Jewish candidate the same question based on analogous facts.
