DOJ investigating 3 Michigan school districts over sexuality, gender instruction

The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division launched the investigation Wednesday “to determine whether they have included sexual orientation and gender ideology (SOGI) content in any class for grades pre K-12” and, if so, to “examine whether the schools have notified parents of their right to opt their children out of such instruction,” it said in a release.

Authorities are also looking at whether the districts “limit access to single-sex intimate spaces, such as bathrooms and locker rooms, based on biological sex,” according to the release.

In similar letters sent to all three districts and published online, Assistant Attorney General Harmeet Dhillon of the Civil Rights Division took issue with a November revision of Michigan health education standards and guidelines — specifically, the guidelines’ inclusion of “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” “gender diversity” and “gender expression.”
