Subject: Re: USSC Term Limits
The protests lodged in that document against the King of England parallel and even identify many of the same grievances we have today against a government that increasingly seems intent on crushing dissent and elevating a president to the rank of ruling monarch.

Are the American people up for the task of "perfecting this Union"?

Collectively, the country has moved a few steps backward. Are we ready to resume the forward march?

I've been watching The Man in the High Castle. It is really excellent, and not at all predictable. Which I like. What strikes me is how MAGA and the "American Reich" are so similar. Attitudes, policies, etc. Of course, MAGA gets resistance (mostly in lower courts), where the "American Reich" is not answerable to anyone (except Berlin). But I could see how we would devolve if MAGA were to solidify its hold, tossing out government that -theoretically- answers to the people, and rewriting American history (as they so desperately are trying to do).

Can we recover? Or will we continue the slide we have begun. I truly have no idea. SCOTUS isn't protecting the People anymore. Some people are "more equal than others", so it would seem.

The irony is that I'm not sure I would trust anyone to "fix" the Constitution. Certainly not the Right, but probably not even the Left. I think there would be too much axe-grinding, and not enough assuring peoples' rights, and government accountability, and limiting powers such that they are inviolate. Both sides would probably screw that one up. If MAGA even wants it (which they don't appear to).
