Subject: Re: The Washington Post, Biden should not
Isn't Dean Phillips challenging Biden for the Democratic nomination? He has no chance of course, but he's still running against Biden despite his professed love for all Biden's policies and Biden's inherent "goodness". But he's still offering a democratic alternative.
Yes, but I should have said that no one serious is entering the race to challenge Biden. Dean Phillips doesn't really fit the bill. He's a sitting U.S. Congressman, which certainly elevates him above the many dozens of "crank" candidates that will try to get their names on primary ballots around the country - but he's got no support and no real chance.
To deny Biden the primary, you need a real primary opponent that can actually draw some fundraising and support. No one who has a credible chance of beating Trump in 2024 would waste their shot like that. Anyone who could beat Trump in 2024 would have a much better chance to win the Presidency in 2028, when it will be an open contest.
