It is called being "normal."

At least since Bush the elder, the GOP has used "traditional American values" and "traditional family values" to bludgeon anyone who thinks differently, about anything. Remember Bush the elder making a big show of reciting the "God" phrase in the Pledge? Fact check, the God phrase was added to the pledge in the 1950s. Nothing "traditional" about it at all. Their "traditional family values" is used to argue against equal employment opportunity for women, and to argue against people in nontraditional interpersonal relationships.

That is where the use of "traditional values" is abused, as an excuse for bigotry.
